Friday's Teaching 21 August, 2009

By Bishop F. M. Mawit

"Yesterday is dead and buried; let's move on the new ground"

Esaiah 43. 18 to 19, Hebrews 8. 13 and Lamentations 3. 19 to 23

"Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses …" (Jude 9).

Have you noticed that when God wants to take you into your future He first makes sure to detach you from all that is part of your past?

There are people whom God has sent far from you because they were preventing you from reaching your destiny.

The Bible says in Jude 9 that upon Moses’ death, Satan disputed with Archangel Michael the right of taking the corpse that God had hidden. Why did God hide Moses corpse?

God didn’t want the children of Israel to keep Moses corpse because of what Moses represented for them. If He ever let them bury Moses, they would have organised grand funerals for him, and his grave would probably become a place of remembrance and a memorial for every true Hebrew. Israel would probably erect a monument to honour their leader, while God was expecting of them a move to the Promised Land.
  1. There are people whom God has sent far from you because they were preventing you from reaching your destiny. In some cases they either disappointed or betrayed you while you were counting on them. In some other cases, God blew out an important support on which you based your hopes. This is only Moses corpse that God has hidden for you to put your trust in God and not in man.
  2. This Moses corpse can also be a rich spiritual experience that you had with Jesus in the past. There are many believers who constantly speak in the past of great things that God has done in their lives; yet what is left of them now?
  3. God is expecting you a move forward, not a monument or a souvenir. As long as you continue admiring your past, you cannot enter your future. Take rid of some connections and habits of your past that are not compatible with your future or that hinder it.
  4. Your future is much more important than your present. The Bible says that the whole creation is waiting for your manifestation: what are you waiting for?
May God grant us the grace to take rid of all that is preventing us from reaching our destiny! We refuse to revere any past relation or experience, no matter what it was. Let God alone be the core of our attention forevermore. In Jesus’ name, amen!
